The Ricky & Robb Podcast Show – Ep. 08

Topic 1: 450 Overview

The 450 class at Hangtown showed that the 2026 Pro Motocross Championship may already be shaping into a four-rider battle between Jett Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence, Haiden Deegan, and Jorge Prado. While the racing itself lacked the bar-to-bar intensity many fans were hoping for, the biggest takeaway was how effortlessly Jett Lawrence controlled the pace. His smooth throttle control, corner speed, racecraft, and ability to build a gap without looking like he was overriding separated him from the field. Hunter remains a major title threat, Deegan continues to prove he belongs at the front of the 450 class, and Prado showed speed before a mechanical issue kept him from finishing where he likely deserved. The question moving forward is whether anyone can match Jett Lawrence’s precision, fitness, and ability to find speed in places others overlook.

Topic 2: 250 Overview

The 250 class continues to look like the most unpredictable and exciting division in Pro Motocross, with Levi Kitchen, Cole Davies, Jo Shimoda, Seth Hammaker, and several others all capable of winning motos and overalls. Kitchen’s 2-2 overall win was important because it showed maturity, patience, and the ability to manage risk instead of throwing away points chasing a moto win. Davies rebounded strongly after mistakes, Shimoda looked smooth and aggressive, and the depth of the class makes it likely that multiple riders will stand on top of the podium this summer. A major theme was racecraft, starts, and passing ability, especially when fast qualifiers struggle to move forward in the motos. The discussion also raised the question of whether current motocross track prep and timed qualifying are creating one-line racing instead of encouraging riders to search for creative passing lines.

Topic 3: Coenen Brothers Coming to America

The arrival of the Coenen brothers in American motocross could be one of the biggest storylines of the season, especially with both riders currently carrying red plates in MXGP competition. Their move to race in the United States brings excitement, risk, and a direct comparison between Europe’s best young talent and America’s top riders like Jett Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence, Haiden Deegan, and the rest of the Pro Motocross field. Ricky Johnson emphasized that elite racers want to know where they stand against the best in the world, even if travel, fatigue, bike setup, illness, or injury create added challenges. The Coenen brothers are expected to bring aggression, hunger, and unpredictability to the series, which could disrupt the championship dynamic and give fans the international showdown they have been waiting for.
